Morgan Dowsett
Raised in Switzerland, Morgan moved to Australia seven years ago after studying and working in the USA. He was Assistant to the Artistic Director of New York’s UBU Repertory Theatre (a French speaking Off-Broadway theatre company) and was part of the New York International Fringe Festival’s Adjudication team who brought the success of Urinetown and Debbie Does Dallas: The Musical to Broadway and Off-Broadway respectively.
In Australia, he directed Angels With Dirty Faces for 9Minds at The Arts Centre in Melbourne, Circularity and Echoes for Short & Sweet, The Knacker’s ABC for Heidelberg Theatre Company, and TAPE at Chapel Off Chapel. In 2004 his short film Vegecide played at the 7th Revelation Perth International Film Festival as part of the closing ceremonies.
He became Artistic Director for Melbourne French Theatre in 2005 and directed Marcel Aymé’s La Tête Des Autres, Jaoui/Bacri’s Un Air De Famille, Marc Camoletti’s Boeing Boeing and Francis Veber’s Le Dîner De Cons, all to critical acclaim.
Morgan most recently directed Neil LaBute’s Fat Pig for QTC (June 2010), helped with All Of Molière In 30 Mins for Sydney’s 2010 Hoopla Festival, directed Step for Griffin Theatre’s D-Week 24-Hour Play Generator (September 2009), Chekhov’s The Sneeze at the Parade Studio as the inaugural Theatre Forward collaboration (July 2009) and Koltès’ In The Solitude Of Cotton Fields as his graduation piece at NIDA in 2008.
He’s also assisted France’s Jean-Luc Prévost on A Journey Through The World Of Molière (March 2009), Peter King on Lots In Space (July 2009), and Michael Gow on God Of Carnage (May 2009) for QTC.
